AUTHOR INTERVIEW : A . MUSE

Author of LGBT Romance

In 2011 when I first joined WATTPAD one of the first friends I made was A. Muse. Between then and now, he’d gained a sizable Wattpad following, hundreds of thousands of views on his works, and published a M/M novel.

INTERVIEW CONDUCTED ON WEDNESDAY APRIL 8, 2015

AB - Ezra, we've been good friends for sometime now. I've watched you become a popular author on Wattpad, gaining hundreds of thousands of reads on your novels.  Recently, you graduated from Wattpad and published a book. It's quite an accomplishment.
How has the journey from first joining Wattpad to publishing a novel been?

AM - It’s been a long one. Wattpad helped me improve my writing. I can remember back when we first met every other setence started with and or but. After you yelled at me, I changed that. So I think that I needed Wattpad in order to become the writer I am today.

AB - Someone needed to yell at you. But your writing has improved dramatically since 2011. L.I.E.S, the novel you recently published, is some of your best work in my opinion. The main character, Harper is . . . crazy, to put it politely. Is there anything in particular that inspired Harper?

AM - I don’t think Harper is crazy. He’s a lot more sane than some of the other characters I’ve written. The inspiration for the story came from . . . this is going to sound crazy but I just wanted to kill off a few people. Writing about it is better than doing the jail time. L.I.E.S was suppose to be just one book, kill a few people and it’s over. As I wrote it just became something more. Now I have seven books planned for the D.E.A.T.H series.

AB - WOW! Seven more books. That’s going to be a lot of work but I firmly believe you’re up to the challenge of writing.
L.I.E.S and D.E.A.T.H seem to be abbreviations. What do they stand for? How did you come up with the unique titles?

AM - L.I.E.S stands for Loyalty Is Ensuring Survival. It started out as something completely different but after the books were finished this title  fit the most.
As for D.E.A.T.H, it stands from Desire Eats At The Heart. As you well know, a while back we had a group for helping writing improve their writing. It was from one of the members that I got the idea for the D.E.AT.H title.

AB - Ah, the writing group. Moving on from that without comment. Could you give us a brief sample of Expect of L.I.E.S?

AM - I think the sample I picked gives you the best idea of the kind of person Harper is.

I was whipped around quickly, my back touching the cold of the freezer wall. Even through the hoodie I could feel the cold wall. My eyes looked for a face and saw the ocean. I knew these eyes; a blue so clear that it looked like the ocean. Past the ocean, I could see the short jet black hair framing a handsome face.
“Blaze,” I hissed his name as the man smiled down at me. He leaned over, his face close to mine. His lips only inches away. I tried to pull back, but there was nowhere to go. I could smell his warm breath blowing over my face. It was the scent of cinnamon and clove. He always smelled like cinnamon and clove.
“You’re so cute when you’re mad, Harper,” he said in that luring voice he always used. His hand came up, pulling the hood over my head. The two round black panda ears sat up on top. I liked animal hoodies, and since I was so short and slim, they gave me an appeal to some guys. I liked that. I like being appealing. It was easier to find the love of your life if people were lining up to be that love.
“Oh no, Blaze, you haven’t seen me mad yet.” It wasn’t a threat. He wouldn’t like me very much if he saw me when I was angry. I would be his worst nightmare if he saw me when I was truly angry.
“I haven’t seen you naked yet either,” Blaze said, his fingers coming down to the zipper of my hoodie. He drew it down slowly, revealing the panda t-shirt I had on under the hoodie. I watched his fingers as he came down to my shorts.
It was almost summer. In a few short weeks, schools would let out and the teens would crowd in. The temperature had already turned up to hell, promising that it was going to be another hot year.
Blaze started to reach for the buttons on my pants. He hooked his fingers in one of my belt loops holding the band of my pants. Did he really think I was going to let him undress me? I know I called him stupid, but he couldn’t be that stupid. I took my blade out. Raising the switchblade to his throat, I pressed it to his flesh.
“I’ll slit your throat before you try,” I said with a pleasant smile on my lips. It was a smile that said I was small, cute, innocent. It didn’t matter that I had a blade to his flesh. That if he tried to do anything else I would have to think of one hell of a story to get myself out of this one.
“Anyone ever tell you that you’re scary?” Blaze asked me, and I scrunched up my face as if I was thinking.
“No, but I've been told I’m cute as a button,” I answered, and he removed his hand from the waistband of my pants. Holding them in the air as he backed away. “Since I covered for you for the last three hours you can finish the inventory.”
Going back and forward with him like this had somehow become a part of the way we talked to each other.
“Mmm, I love it when you talk dirty.” He licked his lips in this overdramatized way. I wondered if the boys and girls swooned when he did it for them.
“Burn in hell, Blaze.” This too was said as sweetly as the rest of the conversation. There was no need to use a nasty tone with Blaze. I could insult him with a smile on my face. I’ve been doing it for three years.
“Is this before or after I take your sweet ass?” I shook my head at that statement. Even I didn’t have a good enough comeback to protest his words. Saying in his dreams just didn’t pack the punch that was needed.

AB - Clearly, Harper is the kind of person you don’t want to trifle with. I’m not so sure I’d want to meet him in a dark alley late at night. Blaze probably would be wise not to stumble across him either.
Your characters are always on the darker personality scale. In the second novel you plan to published, Blood Prize, the main character is of a darker nature as well. Can you tell us a little about Zero and Blood Prize?

AM - Blood Prize is about a boy name Zero, like you said. Zero and his family were attacked by the Great Demon Ban. During this attack Zero, himself, becomes a demon. The story shows how Zero struggles with his fading humanity and the ever growing demonic powers that rest inside of him.
Blood Prize is a LGBT book and though mostly fantasy, I think every good story has an element of romance.
For Zero’s love life, he bounces between two guys. On the one hand he has Soji, a white mage who is pure good and everything right in the world. Soji represents humanity. On the other hand, we have Ban, the big bad demon who killed his family. Ban is just bad news but that also lures Zero. In a lot of ways, it's the lure of his demon side.
Blood Prize is the first book in the Bloody Dance Series.

AB - That sounds like another amazing read. What was the inspiration behind Blood Prize? Do you base your characters in the series on anyone you know personally?

AM - Honestly, Blood Prize was a story that I started when I was much younger. After I joined Wattpad, I rewrote the bit that I had changing the story around so it could fit the LGBT theme that I was going for. Now before it’s publish, I’m rewriting it yet again.
I can’t say what inspire the story. Probably an anime, I watched. That normally gets the juices flowing.
As for anyone I know . . . I’m don’t think I do. Though I guess all of my characters have a bit of me inside of them. I guess you can line Zero, Harper, and any other Main Characters in my books side by side and all of them would have one element of myself in them.

AB - I shouldn’t point out that all of your Main Characters suffer from some form of being bat shit crazy . . . right? Don’t answer that. It’s not a serious question.
Out of your recent characters, which one do you like the best? Why?

AM - This might comes to you as a shock but Landon. He’s mentioned in the second book M.A.D of the D.E.A.T.H Series for the first time. He will have the leading role in book number four, S.A.D.
I like the energy that Landon gives off. He’s one of those people that does what he wants when he wants. He’s passionate and he doesn’t let silly things like no get in his way. I also like that he protects the people he loves. I hope that when the time comes my readers will connect with him the same way I have.

AB - Do you have a rough estimate for when Blood Prize and more of the D.E.A.T.H series will be available?

AM - Blood Prize will be published sometime next month. (MAY) I’m hoping to set up pre-orders soon. So you all will be able to grab a copy. As for the D.E.A.T.H series, book two M.A.D will be out, with luck, sometime in September.

AB - It seems like you have a lot of work cut out for you. I don’t want to keep you to long. It’s been wonderful, sitting down and talking about L.I.E.S. and Blood Prize. I look forward to reading each book in the D.E.A.T.H and Bloody Dance Series.

Thank you for this fantastic interview. To close off, is there anything you’d like to say to your readers?

AM - Just thank you for all the support. Thanks for being with me when I posted my first story on Wattpad, Mark Me Crazy. And even though it wasn’t written that well thanks for thinking it was awesome anyway. Also that there is a lot more to come from me so I hope you all stick around for the ride.
